Half Ironman Triathlon Training Plans


The Half Ironman Distance Triathlon usually consists of a 1900m open water swim, 90k bike and a 13.1m run.

It is often used as the stepping stone before competing in a full ironman distance event.

ATW has free training plans available for intermediate and advanced level athletes.

The half ironman training plans were written by Tanja Slater

Tanja is a former Elite Triathlete and a former Elite Cyclist

As a triathlete she finished 5th in the European Elite U23 Championships. She turned full time and went on to compete for Great Britain and became part of the National Triathlon Squad. Tanja improved quickly to go on to finish 8th in her first European Senior Elite Championships.

As a cyclist Tanja finished 5th in her first Elite National Championships. Tanja competed for a Swiss Professional Women's Cycling Racing Team, racing around the World and competed in two World Championships, aiding Nicole Cooke to podium places on both occasions. Although being a designated 'worker' in the team, she won a few races in the UK and Europe, but her most exciting performance was winning a stage of the "Women's Tour de France" solo.

Tanja is now a full time coach and runs the coaching company Up and Active.

All of our training plans are free to ATW members and there are two half Ironman Triathlon Training Plans to choose from:

Intermediate Half Ironman Distance Triathlon Training Plan

This intermediate Half Ironman Distance Triathlon Training Plan is aimed at people who have already completed a full season at sprint and olympic distance and are looking for a training plan to help them go longer in distance.

In order to complete the intermediate Half Ironman Distance Triathlon Training Plan athletes should be capable of training 6 days a week.

Advanced Half Ironman Distance Triathlon Training Plan

This advanced half ironman training plan is aimed at people who already completed the half ironman distance and are looking for a training plan to help them excel at this distance.

In order to complete the advanced Half Ironman Distance Triathlon Training Plan athletes should be capable of training 6 days a week.
