How did you first become interested in athletics?

I first started competing in cross-country races at primary school and at scouts. My parents were fairly decent runners so they were happy to see me compete out side of school, I also swam at a young age and played a bit of football, so I have been interested in sport all my life.

What is your most important training session?

I don’t necessarily have one important session. Triathlon comprises three sports; therefore I have key sessions for each discipline. For swimming we have an open water swim session on Thursdays, this is vital to develop open water swimming skills. On a Monday evening we have a chain-gang / burn up around a race circuit at Prestwold Hall, this is typically followed by 2-3 1k run reps off the bike. For running my key sessions are track on a Tuesday with the main run of the week a tempo to race paced effort around Beacon Country park followed by 1k reps. This is a tough a hilly circuit and we have a good group of guys there to push each other on.

Which athlete do you most admire?

I don’t really have one athlete I idolise. I take inspiration from several athletes… From inside triathlon I really look up to a friend of mine, Will Clarke, I got into the sport as he was a rising star and have always wanted to emulate some of his achievements. There have been so many inspirational athletes in triathlon over the years. I have been lucky enough to train alongside some of these guys, being able to see the effort they put into their training gives me the greatest motivation. Outside of triathlon I look up to Bradley Wiggins and Jenson Button. These guys are gutsy and… Cool. It’s one thing being good at sport but to be a genuinely interesting person is important to me!

Where is your favourite venue that you have competed at?

So far my favourite venue that I have competed at was Palamos in Spain, a world cup was held there in 2013. It had a bit of everything. Great town, awesome support and atmosphere, and a sweet course! The weather was also perfect, perhaps a little hot, but I like racing in the heat. I have also been on a training camp in St Moritz, I didn’t race there, but wow, what an incredible place!

What is your favourite?

Book: Harry Potter / Lord of the rings / Anything Bernard Cornwell – Hard to call

Film: Lord of the Rings, but I love all films. Sci-Fi to Rom Com!

TV Show: New girl is a current favourite alongside Game of Thrones

Shameless Plug – Is there anything going on in your life that you would like to mention?

I am currently living my life between my hometown Derby and Loughborough where I studied Geography. The set up there in my eyes is perfect! I work part time in a Retul bike fitting shop – Bespoke Cycles Derby. The support from my key sponsors… Asics, i-ride, Jackpot racing, PowerBar and HUUB enable to live the life I live. I couldn’t do it without the support from my family and girlfriend as well! Pretty content right now. Follow what I am up to on @davidrbishop

Question from previous person to complete Q&A (Steve Way) -
What is your biggest “vice” that as a serious athlete you have to keep under control…. and do you ever fail to control it?

My diet… I have a big sweet tooth! And yes, I fail all the time. Lucky I train enough to allow me to get away with it… Most of the time.

What question would you like to ask our next athlete to complete our Q&A?

If a film were to be made about your life, which actor / actress would you want to play the role of you?

If your next race had to be done in fancy dress, what outfit would you choose?

Spiderman! Easy. I love the Spiderman films and I doubt the outfit would slow me down too much… In fact it could even make a cool design for a trisuit!
