Olympic Distance Triathlon Training Plans


The Olympic Distance Triathlon usually consists of a 1500m open water swim, 40k bike and a 10k run.

This is an ideal distance to for people who enjoy endurance sports and like to vary their training across different disciplines.

ATW has free training plans available for beginner, intermediate and advanced level athletes.

Natalie Barnard is a professional ironman triathlete.

Her best achievement to date is her podium finish at Galway 70.3. Before turning to long distance events Natalie Barnard was 2007 World Champion in Biathlon and also European Champion in 2008.

Natalie Barnard runs the triathlon club and coaching company Transition Tri Team.

All of our training plans are free to ATW members and there are three Olympic Distance Triathlon Training Plans to choose from:

Beginner Olympic Distance Triathlon Training Plan

This beginner Olympic Triathlon Training Plan is aimed at people who want to attempt a longer distance triathlon for the first time.

In order to complete the beginner Olympic Triathlon Training Plan athletes should be capable of training 5 days a week.

Intermediate Olympic Distance Triathlon Training Plan

This intermediate Olympic Distance Triathlon Training Plan is aimed at people who have already completed an Olympic distance triathlon and are looking for a training plan to improve their performance.

In order to complete the intermediate Olympic Distance Triathlon Training Plan athletes should be capable of training 6 days a week.

Advanced Olympic Distance Triathlon Training Plan

This advanced Olympic Distance Triathlon Training Plan is aimed at people who regularly race the Olympic Triathlon distance and want to follow a plan to help them achieve a personal best over the distance

In order to complete the advanced Olympic Distance Triathlon Training Plan athletes should be capable of training 6 days a week.
