Name: Frank Baddick
Occupation: IT and Web Manager for British Triathlon
Favourite Events: 1500m (Yes, I’m a miler!)
How did you first become in interested in athletics?
My Dad was a runner, back in North Devon, we used to go around watching him run local road race when we were kids. He then took us to North Devon AC and we started doing the local leagues, everything from 200m to Shot Put, until finally settling on middle distance!
What is your best performance to date?
Best performance to date, would have to be finishing 3rd in the UK Indoor Champs over 1500m in 2012.
What is your most important training session?
Winter session; 6 x 5 minutes at 8-10km pace off one minute recovery. Summer session; 4 x 600m at 1500m (or slightly quicker) pace off 5 minutes recovery.
What is the most impressive/craziest training session you have ever known somebody complete?
Would have to be Gareth Turnbull (Irish 1500m runner), rumoured to have run 4 by 800m with an avg. time of 1.49, can’t even get my head around how that’s possible.
What are your goals for the next 12 months?
Simple really, to be better than I was 12 months ago.
What is the most memorable athletics event you have ever watched?
Super Saturday, unfortunately from in front of my TV.
Which athlete do you most admire?
Paul Radcliffe, simply incredible!
Where is your favourite venue that you have competed at?
Has to be the Olympic Stadium in the BUSC test event, raced 3km in front of nearly 40 thousand people. Second to that, racing a Stretford (Longford Park) I’m sure that track is short!
What is your favourite:
Book: Running book would be Running with the Buffalos, else the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy by Stieg Larsson
Film: American Gangster probably
TV Show: Grand Designs or something foodie!
Shameless Plug – Is there anything going on in your life that you would like to mention?
A quick shout out to my little brother who recently won the Div1 US Collegiate Mountain Bike Champs.
Question from previous person to complete Q&A (Vicky Holland) -
Would you rather have legs as long as fingers or fingers as long as legs?
Legs as long as fingers. Can you imagine how heavy your hands would be if you had legs attached to them?
What question would you like to ask our next athlete to complete our Q&A?
If you had to compete in another sport, which sport would it be and why?
If your next race had to be done in fancy dress, what outfit would you choose?
A Highgate vest…to continue the friendly rivalry!
