Q&A Interview with Matt Sharp


Matt Sharp announced himself onto the triathlon stage when he won the U23 World Championship title in Beijing in 2011. Matt Sharp regularly competes in the ITU World Series with his best result to date being his 5th place finish in Auckland in 2013.

Matt Sharp is from Enfield, north London and trains full time as a member of UK Sport Lottery Funded British Triathlon Olympic Academy Squad based in Loughborough.

How did you first become in interested in athletics?

In primary school my teacher asked if I wanted to do a cross country and really got me into it.

What is your best performance to date?

Winning the U23 world championships in 2011

Any hard and fast run sessions

What is the most impressive/craziest training session you have ever known somebody complete?

My toughest session has been 100x100m swiming off 1.15 straight through.

What are your goals for the next 12 months?

To establish myself as a top senior and win a WCS race.

What is the most memorable athletics event you have ever watched?

Super Saturday

Which athlete do you most admire?

Matt SharpI think that has to be Mo Farah. I was fortunate to meet him recently whilst I was training in St Moritz

Where is your favourite venue that you have competed at?

Auckland, it is a really challenging course and the crowds are very impressive
