Jodie Stimpson is a professional GB triathlete who has had a fantastic start to the 2013 season. She has been on the podium twice already this year in the World Series Triathlon, once at Yokahoma and again at Madrid.
In her early career Jodie became Junior World Champion at aquathlon in 2006 but her breakthrough into elite triathlon started in 2009 when she won the British Triathlon Super Series for the first time. She went on to repeat this success in 2010 and again in 2011.
Jodie Stimpson has very kindly agreed to complete our Q&A interview.
Name: Jodie Stimpson
Favourite Events: London Hyde Park
How did you first become interested in athletics?
My dad taught me to swim when i was 4. Then my dad and uncle took me to my first triathlon when i was 9, and i won! So i stuck at it and never looked back.
What is your best performance to date?
You mean apart from winning the race when i was 9...? I would say 3rd in Yokaharma and Madrid WTS events earlier this year .
What is your most important training session?
They're all just as important as each other, that's one of the things I have learnt from Darren Smith (my coach); no one session is more important - they all add up.
What is the most impressive/craziest training session you have ever known somebody complete?
I think the most impressive training session I have ever seen completed was the one that you dont think you can start, never mind finish! Those tend to be the ones you dont forget, and therefore get the most out of.
What are your goals for the next 12 months?
My main goal is London Hyde Park WTS Grand final but there is also Hamburg, Stockholm WTS races I am looking forward to, and the Virgin Active London Triathlon.
What is the most memorable athletics event you have ever watched?
I was at home watching the Women's London Olympic Triathlon and it's got to be that race, not only becasue it's where I want to be but I thought it was a fantastic race with a gripping finish with 2 of the most talented driven athletes [1. Nicola Spirig; 2. Lisa Norden].
Which athlete do you most admire?
God that's a hard one but it's got to be Lisa Norden really. I had the plessure of training with her in the lead up to her becoming World Champion last year. Knowing her more as a triathlete and a professional athlete was an hounor but getting to know Lisa as a person and making a friend was terrific, she taught me a lot and she is a very inspirational athlete.
Where is your favourite venue that you have competed at?
London Hyde Park, there is really no better feeling than racing at home.
What is your favourite:
Chrissie Wellington's (very highly reccommended!).
Law Abiding Citizen.
Shameless Plug –
Is there anything going on in your life at the moment that you would like to mention?
Not really, anyone who knows me knows I am a family Black Country Gal through and through and very proud of where I am from.
Question from previous person to complete Q&A (Endurance athlete Natalie Barnard) - If you were not doing sport, what would you be doing, or what would you like to do?
I know this probably sounds cheesy but I couldn't think of anything that I would want, or have ever wanted to do, more than this. I have always wanted to go to the Olympics and I'm driven to get there.
What question would you like to ask our next athlete to complete our Q&A?
Where would you like to race if you could pick anywere in the world and why?
If your next race had to be in fancy dress what outfit would you choose?
I just went on Google and typed in fancy dress outfits - so I will go with a Fairy costume... it looked cute.
