Merchant Taylors’ School Open Water Swimming Addrdess:
Sandy Lodge Road
There are 2 swimming loops in the stunning fresh water lake. One measures 750m and the other is shorter at 400m.
We will have a full water safety crew on kayaks to support you in the water and an ATW staff member will be at the water edge to make sure everyone knows the swim rules and enters and exits the water safely.
ActiveTrainingWorld want everyone to enjoy these open water swimming sessions safely and therefore we require everyone to adhere to our strict social distancing rules when attending the sessions. Anyone found to be flaunting the rules will be instantly banned from all future ATW open water swimming sessions.
Experienced Individual Sessions and Age Restrictions
These open water swimming sessions are for individuals or family members only. You are not allowed to swim with a friend or a club mate unless they live in the same house as you. If you are not an experienced open water swimmer then this really is not the time to start! We expect everyone attending these sessions to be a competent and confident open water swimmer.
The sessions are now open to under 16’s who must also be confident open water swimmers. Under 16’s will only be allowed to complete the 400m lap. Under 14’s must be accompanied at all times in the water by an adult from the same household.
All sessions are pre book only via the ATW website. There will be a maximum of 50 swimmers allowed in the lake per hour. You will not be able to turn up and pay at these sessions until social distancing rules have been relaxed further.
For now we are not offering season passes as we need to make sure that there is never more than 50 people in any one session.
The link to our event listing page is below. Find the date you would like to swim and then register your details:
Arriving and Changing
Free parking is available at the school. Currently ATW will not be making the changing rooms available to use. Swimmers are required to arrive ready to swim. You can of course put your wetsuit on by your car.
It would be a good idea to practice putting on your wetsuit by yourself as people will not be able to assist you with fastening the rear zip on a wetsuit.
After your swim you will be able to use the designated ATW gazebos to change in. These will have a ‘1 out, 1 in’ policy and inside there will be no tables, chairs or other surfaces. No baggage is allowed to be kept in this area.
Portable toilets will be available to use with a hand sanitising station outside of the cubicle and inside the cubicle. Everyone must use the hand sanitiser before entering the cubicle, use the hand sanitiser inside the cubicle and then use the hand sanitiser outside the cubicle again. Disinfectant wipes will also be available in all cubicles.
A simple drop off and pick up baggage area will be available at the edge of the lake. This area is not to be treated like a transition or changing area. You can only quickly drop off a bag here and then collect the bag after the swim. This area will be contained but ATW accept no responsibility for your possessions. It would be preferable if you left all valuables at home or in your vehicle.
Entering the lake
A 2m queuing system will be operational to enter the lake. Before entering the lake you need to give your name to the ATW staff member who will have a list of all pre-paid swimmers. Remember there is no pay on the day and you will be turned away if you haven’t pre booked.
When in the water we require everyone to swim individually in their own space or with someone that you share a house with. Please respect the swimmers around you and find your own space. If you get into trouble in the water then lie on your back with one arm in the air and our water safety team will be on hand to help. If you are not a confident and competent swimmer then you should not be attending these sessions.
Exiting the lake
When you exit the lake you will be able to pick up your bag and then leave the baggage area immediately. From there we expect you to get changed in the designated area or make your way back to your vehicle to get changed and leave immediately.
Wetsuit hire, catering and shop purchases
All of these will not be available whilst the strict social distancing rules are in place. Later in the year we may be able to introduce this but for now we expect all swimmers to arrive ready to swim and have everything they need with them.
Book your session
If you are happy to follow our social distancing rules and want to swim in the beautiful fresh water lake then we very much look forward to seeing you at the lake soon!
