Without a board, the aim is to ensure a good body position close to the water surface, minimal hip rotation and a strong, powerful scissor-like kicking action.
One arm needs to remain extended and head remaining fixated. One hip should point towards the floor of the pool, whilst the other needs to point up to the ceiling and parallel to one another. The hip should aim to be near the water surface throughout and must not dip- this will drop the leg angle. The legs must snap back and forth with minimal bend from the knee joints, ankles must be flexed but strong.
